Averages were up at the annual sale of Welsh Halfbred breeding females at Ruthin on Wednesday 3rd September with yearlings averaging £105.39 and ewe lambs averaging £60.26 – many coming from some of the hardest hill farms in the area and with some of the yearlings having reared lambs.
Messrs I G Evans & Son, Halton, Chirk started the sale with their usual consignment of 3 year old ewes selling at £105 for their pen of 25.
Association President Trefor Lloyd Jones presented the Doug Brereton Perpetual Challenge Trophy for the best pen of yearling ewes to Alun Evans, Ffrith Fedw, Prion, Denbigh. These 30 ewes topped the sale at £132 selling to Messrs Potter, York.
Champion pen of lambs were the winners of the small flock competition and came from Gareth Jones, Ty Nant, Eglwys Bach, Colwyn Bay selling for a new centre high of £110 for a pen of 20. Pre-sale show sponsored by The Society of Border Leicester Sheep Breeders
