The Judge Mr Dafydd Evans, Tir Barwn, Betws G G, Corwen, awarded the Prizes as follows:
Yearling Ewes
The Best Pen of Yearling Ewes and winner of the Doug Brereton Perpetual Challenge Trophy was awarded to Lot 7, a Pen of 20, exhibited by Mr Gareth Jones, Ty Nant, Eglwysbach which sold for £ 142.00 to 1 Holgate, Street House Farm, Wigglesworth, Skipton.
The Runners Up were Lot 21, 20 Ewes shown by Mr Gwyn Jones, Nant Gwyn, Eglwysbach, which realised £112.00, and bought by Astra Zeneca UK Ltd, Macclesfield.
The 1,245 Yearling Ewes on offer Averaged £ 86.90 down £28.00 on the year but this trade was expected due to the uncertainties in the agricultural sector over Brexit and the shortage of grass due to the very dry conditions over the past 3 months.
Ewe Lambs
In the Ewe Lamb Classes 1st Prize Pen of 40 was awarded to Lot 53 shown by I G Evans and Son, Halton Farm, Chirk, selling for £62.00 to A J MacGregor, Relief Farm, Ecclefechan, Lockerbie.
2nd Prize Pen of 40 was awarded to Mr Gwyn Jones, Nant Gwyn, Eglwysbach, selling for £78.00 to J G & I V Jones, Trefaes Fawr, Sarn, Pwllheli.
In the Pen of 20 Ewe Lambs, 1st Prize and Overall Champion was awarded to Mr Gareth Jones, Ty Nant, Eglwysbach, selling for £90.00 to J G & I V Jones, Trefaes Fawr, Sarn, Pwllheli.
2nd Prize Pen and Reserve Champion Pen of 20 Ewe Lambs was awarded to R A George, Pen y Banc, New Chapel, Llanidloes, but left the Ring unsold.
The Overall Average for the 985 Catalogued entry of Ewe Lambs was £ 64.20 down £6.00 on the year.
In general the trade was very difficult to gauge with the very best in demand from several Buyers but the smaller Yearling Ewes were very hard to place.
